Beichen District locates on the north of the city downtown area, with an area of totally 480.5 square kilometers, there are two streets and nine towns and registered population of 320 thousand. There are four streets and three towns locating between the center ring road and the outer ring road, the Beijing-Tianjin highway passing through from north to south directly leads to the downtown area. Beichen District is an important industry base in Tianjin, it has set up eight key enterprises-the metallurgical industry, electrical hoousehold appliances industry, mechanical electrical industry, bio-medical industry, rubber chemical industry, the textile and clothing industry, furniture-making industry, food and beverage industry, and a series of flagship products are produced here-steel pipe, tire, air conditioner, microwave oven, motor, clothing, cable and etc. Nation-class hi-tech industry area namely Beichen technology area covers an area of 17.5 square kilometers and possesses the conditions of "seven connections and one fairness".Up to now about 100 companies from 16 countries have invested and set up factories here. The six pillar industries including electrical and mechanical manufacturing industry, plastic packing industry, bio-medicinal industry, food and beverage industry, rubber industry, new material industry begin to take shape. Beichen District has set up a nation-class Scientific and Technological Achievements Conversion Demonstration Zone, Technique Market Experimental Unit, Shuangjie Spark Technique-intensive Zone, Beichen Demonstration Zone of Tianjin Information Port, all of which were chosen as National Advanced Zone of Scientific and Technological Work.
